About Me

I’m Ruby Mitchell, a Broadcast Journalism graduate from City, University of London, where I achieved a Distinction and BJTC accreditation. Before that, I studied Sociology at the University of Leeds, graduating with First-Class Honours  -a background that continues to inform my interest in social narratives and human behaviour.

I have a strong focus on visual storytelling, investigative reporting, and digital media. I’ve gained hands-on experience producing digital video articles at The Independent and shadowing BBC journalists on long-form investigative projects, developing skills in pitching, research, editing, and newsroom collaboration.

My work spans everything from covering the closure of Peckham Soup Kitchen to exploring the housing crisis faced by ex-prisoners, reporting on new safety measures in London nightlife, and directing my own documentary TikTok: Producing Pain. Across all of these, my goal is the same: to tell human-centred stories that hold power to account and give a platform to voices too often overlooked.

Alongside this, I’m currently working in freelance video and content production, creating digital campaigns and branded storytelling for clients. This has strengthened my ability to craft stories that live natively across platforms from TikTok and Instagram to YouTube- where creativity, clarity, and pace are key.

I’m also passionate about sport, both as a fan and a journalist, and particularly interested in how digital media can amplify female fandom and spotlight underrepresented stories in the sporting world.

I’m driven by how digital storytelling and online culture can connect with audiences in new and meaningful ways. With a background in sociology and a commitment to socially impactful reporting, I bring curiosity, adaptability, and collaborative energy to every project, whether that’s an editorial investigation, a brand campaign, or a piece of multimedia storytelling that sits somewhere in between
